Education and Inspiration through the ancient art of storytelling!
from Green Teacher Magazine, Fall 2000, Issue 63
Deeply embedded in human nature, storytelling has a unique power to awaken imagination and perception of the natural world. Brian "Fox" Ellis's Learning From The Land, Teaching Ecology Through Stories and Activities is a wonderful resource with which to access the power of story and apply it to understanding the web of connectedness in the natural world. The introduction offers useful suggestions for becoming a "teller of tales," but the heart of the book is a selection of nine stories accompanied by background comments for teachers and well-developed student activities. Ellis's book is unique in combining elements of geological history, important scientific concepts, ecological awareness and creative writing. Highly recommended for all grade levels.
One word: WOW! This is THE ideal teacher's resource book for ecological studies in the classroom. A wonderful combination of folktales and environmental activities will keep your students "energized" for months.
